How It Started

Like many great village stories, the tale of our shop is one of determination, teamwork, and good old-fashioned community spirit. When the last local store closed its doors in the early 2000s, West Meon faced the loss of more than just a place to buy essentials – we risked losing a part of village life. But the community wasn’t ready to let that happen.

In 2006, thanks to the efforts of a small group of residents (and a lot of village goodwill), the West Meon Community Shop reopened its doors – not as a private business, but as something owned and run by the people it serves. With volunteers behind the counter, locals investing their time and money, and a real passion for making it work, the shop quickly became much more than just a place to shop.

Volunteer With Us

At the heart of it all is our Manager, Rachel Barnett—the face of the shop! Rachel keeps everything on track.  However, we couldn’t do it without the incredible effort of our team, and we’re always happy to welcome new volunteers who would like to get involved and support our community. If this is something you are interested in and would like to join this amazing group of people, why not pop in and have a chat, we’d love to hear from you!
